My life exists in two realities
My soul is pulled from side to side
Torn apart
My brain is lost, confused
The incessant chatter of voices in my head
One is listing chemical equations,
Analyzing the Cold War, conjugating French Verbs
Sharp edges and flourescent lights
Organized letters and Mindless humming
The comforting and constant drumming of facts and digits
Sedate my brain
Prepare me for conformity
Make me a thoughtless animal
And I revel in this comfort
I drink in the safe world of facts and figures
I am becoming numb
But the unknown is also calling
Whispering sweet promises into my ear
The voice calls for adventure
Exploration
Wilderness and nature
The mystical and magical
The Unknown
Unknown
Unknown
The dark abyss
The absence of security
Mental darkness and demons
Fear
Fear keeps me in line
Fear forces me to walk
Fear is making me forget
The wild whispers are getting softer and quieter
They are sick and dying
The fog is setting in
The walls are growing higher
Brainwashed youth
When will creature comfort finally consume me?
And make me forget.

You must be an engineer.

Not engineer exactly but I study a lot of science and math. Sometimes I feel like one though, with all that information running though my head.

I really love this poem. I like the entire concept of the things we can’t define challenging our set routines and facts. It’s like the chaos of nature, the naturalism taking over our mechanic ways of living. If this was your first attempt at poetry, then you definitely have a talent. Keep writing 🙂

Thank you so much! I’ve read a lot of poetry from many bloggers, which inspired me to give it a go. I will definitely explore this medium of expression much more. 😊

You should! I think writing poetry just needs a little push in the beginning, soon enough your prose will automatically start turning to poetry, at least it did with me. Its such a pure form of expression.

It definitely was very difficult to start, but even now I started to catch myself thinking of short verses about things I observe around me. Thank you for the encouragement, it means so much to me.

A lot of interests here, I might be writing to a multipotentialite… it seems?

It’s true that I have a lot of interests, but they’re so wide ranged that I wouldn’t say I’m particularly good at everything I do. It’s kind of funny, because I just made a comment related to thing on one of your posts. Thanks for reading!

I just realized that after you posted haha, but anyways, you don’t need to be good at what you do to say that you are what you do. I mean, for example, if you write, it doesn’t even have to be “good” to consider yourself a writer. That is up to you. Whether other people want to consider you a writer is their business not yours. We are what we think we are and then we become that for real.

Keep writing! I found it to be the best way of sorting out my thoughts and beliefs. Take a walk outside the box!!

Thank you for reading! I agree, writing definitely helps me sort out the jumble of thoughts inside my head, but poetry writing is a new, and exiting, venture for me.

Love this! Just wanted to stop by and say hi, since you did the same for me. So, there’s no right or wrong way to write poetry…the easiest way to get better is read, write, breathe, eat, and sleep all things poetry! Order some poetry books off ebay, join a few online poetry courses(there are free ones), read blogs, and just write write write…..there are a couple apps I use to help me. Poet Assistant on Andriod is my favorite. This is awesome for a first poem! Good luck with your poetry. I hope to see more poems from you soon! ❤

Thank you so much! For some reason your comment went to spam, so I just saw it, but thank you for your advice. I’ll definitely check all those things out. I’m new to poetry and I really want to improve, so your advice is very valuable.

Great poem. Would never have guessed this was a first attempt. Your last few lines reminded me of ‘Dune’: my favourite book.
Fear is the mind killer, etc.

It’s sci-fi. People either love it or hate it.

I was never much of a sci-fi reader, but this summer I want to explore new genres of books so I’ll give it a go.

Exquisite…such beautiful analogies, subtle truths and whispers of other realities. Thank you for commenting on my own post, so I could follow you to this one. ♡

Thank you for your very thoughtful comment! Yes, that was exactly what getting at. I am currently under the illusion that reality is an illusion: that it changes all the time, based on perspective. This poem was about how my reality is constantly changing. 🙂
